چکیده

Aims: This study was carried out to investigate the in-vitro antibacterial effect of crude extracts Corn (Zea mays) silks and husks on selected biofilm producing multi-drug resistant bacteria isolated from urinary catheter tips.
 Study Design: Experimental design.
Place Duration Study: conducted at Federal University Technology, Akure (FUTA) Ondo State, Nigeria.
Methodology: Bacterial isolates tips were screened for production. The subjected commercial antibiotics more than three classes used study. Methanol distilled water as extracting solvents corn husks. activity phytochemical analysis using standard procedures.
Results: methanol aqueous revealed presence saponins, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids cardiac glycosides. extract husk showed highest inhibitory effects Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci with zones inhibition ranging 14.80 ± 1.89 mm 24.40 2.51 200 mg/mL. Proteus mirabilis exhibited resistance against all extracts.
Conclusion: Findings this potential varying concentrations. potency lower concentration (200 mg/mL) suggests its use in treatment tract especially coli, pneumoniae Staphylococci.

Extract from Maize (Zea mays L.): Antibacterial Activity of DIMBOA and Its Derivatives against Ralstonia solanacearum.

Many cereals accumulate hydroxamic acids involved in defense of plant against various fungi, bacteria, and insects. 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazine-3-one, commonly known as DIMBOA, is one of the principal cyclic hydroxamic acids in aqueous extracts of maize. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the isolated DIMBOA and its derivatives 2-benzoxazolinone (BOA...
